Finance & Risk Management in Transport and Logistics
Transport and logistics managers have to take strategic decisions, some of which are related directly or indirectly to the aspects of finance and investment with certain level of financial risks. It is paramount that the managers are equipped with the necessary knowledge of basic financial concepts and of know-how regarding the application of financial and investment appraisal tools to enhance the quality of the decision-making. The primary aim of this course is to provide students with the up-to-date knowledge of a wide range of financial concepts and analytical methods with a particular emphasis on the application of these to decision making in international transport and logistics.
By the end of the subject, the student should be able to:
describe the scope of financial management and its basic concepts
explain the features of main financial analytical tools
use analytical tools to conduct investment appraisal of transport and logistics projects
demonstrate an understanding of the principles and methods of financial risk management
Pierre Cariou is Professor in Shipping and Port Economics at the KEDGE Business School in Marseille (France). He is visiting professor at Shanghai Maritime University and the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden. Prior to this, he held the French Chair in Maritime Affairs at the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden, where he was in charge of Shipping and Port Management specializations. From 2001 to 2004, he was Associate Professor in Economics at the Faculty of Economics of Nantes (France).
